About Me

Michael Newman, LMFT is a therapist specializing both individuals and couples.   He maintains a private practice in Murrieta, California.

My philosophy of therapy is holistic, meaning that I believe people are made up of many parts: body, soul (mind, emotions, will), and spirit. These parts must function in a balanced relationship in order for us to thrive. How we feel about ourselves and how we view the world affects the quality of our relationships. When we can balance a positive identity with our role in the world while also remaining connected to others, we feel whole. Brokenness can occur if any of these relationships are out of balance. In therapy, I help my clients assess the lack of balance so they can figure out how to get whole again.

With nearly three decades of counseling experience, I cater each therapy session to your individual needs and comfort levels. I will encourage you to communicate openly and with ongoing feedback so I know what you expect and what you would like to focus on during sessions. I am able provide in person or online counseling.  I am licensed in Colorado, Washington and California states as a Marriage and Family Therapist (seeing my Washington and Colorado clients online).

For the past 27 years, I have counseled families, couples, adults, and teenagers in a variety of settings and circumstances. I come alive when I can step into another person’s shoes and walk around for a while, learning about their stories and perspectives and how I can partner with them to enjoy the wholeness of a vibrant life.
